Subject: Starter for Syncro

Yesterday, we here at www.frankcondelli.com <http://www.frankcondelli.com/> ran into a new problem that we have never seen before. Replacing a starter on a Syncro and the starter was in the way of putting back the vacuum actuator for the diff lock. Got another starter out of stock and it worked. The first starter we took off the self was 1/2’ longer than the second one. Both were Bosch, std. tranny, from 1982, 025 911 023A, SR 401X starters from the same supplier that I have been getting them for years. First time we ever see this problem. The black casing portion of the starter must be 4” long not 4-1/2" for it to work in the Syncro. Check your starters before installing and then becoming bewildered !

Cheers,
