Hi all We are on the way home to the west coast from a trip to Ontario That's about 4000km one way. We noticed oil usage on the way out-about 1.8-2litres for the 4000k We've been keeping a close eye on the oil usage. Yesterday we had clouds of white smoke from the exhaust. Pulled over stopped the engine got a tow to the Subaru dealer in Regina. Mechanic will complete diagnostics tomorrow (Monday) I'm thinking we've lost a head gasket. Or two. Darn. So while I'm waiting twiddling my thumbs I start thinking questions.... Is the oil use connected to a head gasket failure? If we repair head gaskets will we still have oil use? While the engine is apart should we be putting new piston rings in or anything else? If we repair the engine how long can we expect it to last? Engine is a 2.5 from a 2009 Impreza. Had about 40,000miles/60,000km at install seven years ago, not sure of mileage on it now but say 10,000km per year puts us around 130,000km. Oil has never gone below the L mark on the dipstick Engine has never overheated. Usually driven at 3200-3400 rpm on the highway With the re geared tranny that puts cruising speed around110-5km Any thoughts welcome Thanks all BillM |
