My first van was a $100 1958 with lethal exhaust fumes. It proved the
concept of van ownership for me, though, and I soon moved on to a beautiful
cream over green 1963. Bought my first "modern" VW bus as a 1969
white-over-tan tintop and drove the wheels off of it for a decade.Could not
resist the new 1990 bright red Carat on the local dealer's lot, so I bought
it and drove it for about 15 years but along the way I was offered the
chance to buy a diesel Westy 5-speed ultra cheap from a friend's family who
just wanted to get rid of it after he passed away. That was in 2003 and I'm
still spending money on it.
