It has absolutely nothing to do with which OS you are using. It's about the
email provider. In the case of Jeff, he's using iCloud for email, which is
run by Apple. Apple is notoriously weak with anything related to servers,
so I am not surprised by the anecdotes. I've had great success using Gmail,
but I know others who have not.
Email is notoriously unreliable, as it was designed by academics in the
late 60s who did not envision malicious use and as a result didn't build-in
security measures against said abuse, which is why we have such problems
with spam. Many people and companies have tried to add various solutions to
improve the problem, but ultimately they can't address the core
architectural problems and still work for as broad an audience as it does.
Frankly, I'm amazed that it works as well as it does!
