Here is the filter rule that I use with my gmail account:

Matches: to:(vanagon@gerry.vanagon.com) Do this: Skip Inbox, Apply label "Vanagon List", Never send it to Spam, Categorize as Forums

It seems to work quite well, I never see list messages in spam and I haven't noticed any missing messages lately.
