I presume you are recommending the tires in the priority tire link (since that really wasn’t obvious from your post. ) I think the winter tires on my non-GL Vanagon are due for a replacement this year. I might consider these.

So why this tire? I obtained this van in April 2019 at 248K. As part of originally getting it running I upgraded to the AR95T wheels and Toyo Celsius PCR tires 225/55-17. This tire was a slight mistake as it comes in 2 versions, Passenger Car Radial, (PCR) and Crossover Utility Vehicle, (CUV). Both have same ratings and similar tread pattern. The tread is slightly deeper on the CUV. > The choice of that tire is based on it being very competitive with the Nokian GR4. These are "All Weather" tires which means they carry the 3 peak mountain snowflake symbol and offer improved winter performance compared to all season tires. Also, although the Brand is Toyo this particular series is made in USA. > > Anyway now at almost 274K they worn almost to the indicators that they are no longer "winter" tires. As this van is 2WD I wanted true winter tires for this season. So then I considered that this I really a 4 month tire so I didn't want to pay a premium price. When I spotted this tire the tread pattern looked good to me and it had the needed specs (XL) so I figured to give them a try. Note they are marked made in Indonesia. I also added a TPMS system, pressure and temperature sensors inside the tire. > > So it has now been a week, about 250 miles mixed driving. So far I am impressed. They seem t grip well and ride is quiet and smooth. No steering shakes or shimmies. I like. > > I mention the tires as tire and wheel questions come up often. A major benefit is having so many more choices. I have looked at so many choices for tire/wheel sizes and in my opinion for choices and handling the 17's are the sweet spot. 225/55017XL for 2WD and 235/55-17XL Syncro. For off road/Syncro 16's may be better. The Nokian Rotiiva 215/65-16 is a favorite AT tire. > > For the brakes since I had to do some front end work, ball joints, a tie rod end, sway bar mounts and the brakes were due I decided to upgrade. The fronts were last done at 236K, the rears at 208K. While the rear were not worn this van always had a bit of a soft pedal. Upon close inspection I found the rear backing plates were rusted through at the hub allowing for some flex. Since all that needed to be done upgrading to the rear discs became incremental. Also, if you can’t get the OEM backing plates the re-pops are just not right. The steel is too thin and as soon as the paint gets worn or damaged they rust quickly. So while I try to keep this van going at low cast I justified in my mind to just do the brake upgrade all 4. Yes the GoWesty kits. > > So now that the brakes are seated I have to say I have one regret, not doing them sooner! Pedal is firm, application immediate and consistent, and they work so smoothly. I actually look forward to using them. And the hand brake works great also. The rear kit is surprisingly well detailed including an addition of a return spring for the center brake cable. They should offer that as a stand-alone kit. For amazement after install which includes new rear cables, the center adjusting bar did not need any adjustment. Fun Bus will be getting the rear kit soon! > > Dennis > > > https://www.prioritytire.com/accelera-x-grip-225-55r17-101v-xl-winter-tire/ > > > > -----Original Message----- > From: Vanagon Mailing List <vanagon@gerry.vanagon.com> On Behalf Of ddbjorkman@verizon.net > Sent: Friday, January 8, 2021 5:16 PM > To: vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM > Subject: Re: Tire info from Dennis....and messages going to Spam Folder > > I just tried this.
