Alistair, 87 Wolfsburg, so later hinge, but I’ve been confusing myself with too many versions anyway. Looks to me like they did this more than two ways. Ignoring ETKA and looking at Bentley 58.21, I think what I need is the ‘Upper hinge link seal’ that fits on top of and into the spring, and the ‘Upper hinge seal’ that goes above the hinge and under the spring. Even sticking with the Bentley, if you turn back to illustrations on 58.17 and 58.15 (still From 1985 m.y.) you don’t see that rounded cap, just the post of the hinge link with the pin through it above the spring. Same with every pic I’ve seen of new hinges. If they eliminated that cap (upper hinge link seal) there must still be a sleeve that fits between the spring and the post it sits on. They’re trying to confuse me and it ain’t that hard. I could take pics for you to look and compare. There are some seals in the assembly that do get lost, maybe you can see that in the pics? I don’t find that or the seals on either side of it. Anyone find parts to rebuild one of these? |
