+ 1 on a recommendation for Fluke, and also Dennis's comments about the clamp meter being useful for starting and alternator charging issues (but maybe not all that much else). I have a well-worn Fluke 79 that lives in my van, and a Fluke clamp ammeter adapter that lives at home. I've been amazed to see basic compact digital meters for as low as $6. Great bang for the buck to add to your travel toolkit if you don't have one. Whatever you end up with, make sure to track down some spare fuses ahead of time, for when you try to measure voltage with the leads still plugged into the current measurement positions... Alex |
