Jim, You're braver than I am. I'm afraid that if I knew for sure how much time and money I had into the two vans I've owned - 85 Westy 2 wheel drive and 87 Westfakia syncro converted to TDI power and many, many, many other projects - I'd be depressed, more depressed than COVID depressed. Mike

For as long as I have had my Westy (17 years) I have recorded every stinking dollar and every bit of labor I have spent on it. I keep it all in a word doc with a brief narrative of what    the problem was, how I diagnosed it and what I did to fix it. I know where I bought each part or how I made each modification. I know the dates and mileage. It’s been pretty damn helpful, especially in figuring out what NOT to use/buy again.

I will soon come up with my method, and a spreadsheet does wonders for that. GoWesty posted great clues, and I for sure will tally this advice in. Yeah, it's all about planning ahead. As best as possible.  > Breakdown on the road is no fun. Well it isn’t about driving the car it is about it’s care and that would be a good job for me with all our cars. And, I will leave the driving to others.  > That is until the car drives itself.
