Exactly!  That happened to us during a trip from Chicago to Newfoundland.
Since the seat was snagged toward the back of its travel, only the tallest
people could drive.  When we stopped overnight, I finally figured it out
and managed to remove the offending screw or turned back in far enough to
get the seat to move and take it out.  If this is John's problem, he might
be able to solve it without the hacksaw.
