@ John Rogers & WEEIMC

All 3 of the VW Vans I have owned since 1979 have run with Larger Rear Tires

& Smaller, as close to Original OD as available, Fronts ~

1976 Westy 14” Rims + 205/70 Frnt + 225/75 Rear

1983.5 Westy 14” Rims + 205/70 Frnt + 225/75 Rear for a Bunch of Years, then 235/75 Rears for a few

1990 Westy 15” Rims + 225/60 Frnt + 235/75 Rear from 2006 when acquired to just recent switch to 235/70r16 Rears

My plan is to see how well 15s Front + 16s Rear Handles & Keep it That Way If Drives OK ~ So Far No Issues & I Do Speed Limit

+ 5 Most Always ~ I feel that the Nose Down gives Me Better Stab’ @ Hiway Speeds & I also like it for Camping as I sleep with

My Head @ Rear Hatch & I Prefer My Head Above My Feet when Prone ~

Only time I ever had a Handling Issue was when I tried Falkens on the Front with My Coopers on the Rear,, Was Very Surface

Grabby ~ Switched back to Coopers on Front after just a few days ~

Mixed sets, driving straight no major issues, but handling on turns will feel odd at best, and worse at greater speeds. The problem really surfaces in tough conditions, like weather, speed or emergency maneuvers. > > -----Original Message----- > From: Vanagon Mailing List [mailto:vanagon@gerry.vanagon.com] On Behalf Of John Rodgers > Sent: Thursday, April 8, 2021 8:44 AM > To: vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM > Subject: Tires > > Can I run stock (14 in) tires up front and 16 in tires on the rear in a two > wheel drive vanagon with autotranny? > > Thanks.
