I copied the following out of my samba post from

These drains just drain into the fresh air intake cavities for the engine
in the back of the van.

See notes below about the upgraded part number though.

==============================

The best drain valve from VW ends in a widening Y shape rather than the
older style narrowing "fish mouth" shape.

You can see that VW even issued a recall because the "fish
mouth" drains did not drain properly.

Use this part number for drains / one-way valves: 893260155

One of the end-cap numbers (253 260 180) is also used as a drain cap for
some VW engines. For Vanagon, VW called it a "fish mouth" style
and decided it was too restrictive on draining so VW changed its
recommendation for Vanagon for us to replace 253 260 180 with 431 260 155
after the 253 260 180 part turned out not to drain well enough.

I was able to establish in testing this summer that I did not like how
readily the fish mouth style drained.

In some places, VW calls one of the hoses a 1/2" hose, and the one a
3/8" hose. I am not sure why this would be since the one is supposed
to be fitted in place of the other.

The part 431 260 155 may no longer be available but seems to be available
as an Audi part number 893260155 which you can still order. The pictures
I show are the part 893260155 which looks great to me and I guess I
recommend it for either the Air Conditioning drains or for use on the air
inlet elbows to allow water conedensation or spray to drain out of syncro
air intake snorkel plumbing (at the low point).

The part 893260155 costs something like $20 whereas the aftermarket
versions of 253 260 180 can be had for less than $2.

I was not very happy with 253 260 180 myself so I used the upgraded part
notwithstanding the silly expense.

VW in its snorkel architecture put a water drain hole in the air intake
system but no one-way valve.

I think that's a mistake because if you idle the engine while you are
stuck in a swamp I think the engine air intake system will suck water up
into the little drain valve hole and this could harm your
engine.

Adding an air intake valve like the ones pictured is a little tricky
because there isn't really room enough between the metal
"floor" of the air intake metal superstructure chamber of the
van and the snorkel elbow itself.

So my guess is that what I am going to do is to drill a hole in the floor
below the air intake elbow in my van and then affix the valve hanging
down from that. (The valve is somewhat protected at that point by being
up above other metal.)

This valve is a pretty neat example of low technology high tech, or maybe
high technology low tech.

With my luck, the part number 893260155 will be NLA by the time you read
this.

questions. Got my a/c fixed, well kind of. The compressor gets very
chilly but the wiring is not complete/correct so no fans work.

Trying to diagnose this I traced the a/c control wiring to the back
overhead cabinet. In the midst of this fun project I found a hose to the
drivers side of the back cabinet inlet. Looks to me like a drain hose for
condensate.

Anyone know where this goes to drain?

You've heard of the answer man? Well, I'm the question man.
