Dear Vanagon Types I am continuing to deal with a rear-wheel noise when making a right turn. Does a noise during a right turn indicate the problem is the right-side wheel? I have cut a 1/16 off the drum rim, double-checked the brake assembly, and re-torqued the axel nut to no avail. I hesitate to grind any more material off the drum until I have a better idea what is happening. Grinding down the edge did help at first when it was a constant rubbing noise, it eliminated the noise except in a turn, but subsequent grinding has done nothing. Now, there is a new and slight repetitive noise that is in sync with the wheel rotation that makes me wonder if now there is a CV problem not just the brake problem. I am able to move the CVs slightly back and forth by hand and there is no unusual sound when doing that, and nothing looks out of the ordinary. Knowing which side is likely involved will help me focus my efforts. Thanks Dave B Boise |
