It's possible that excess play at outboard bushings at clutch cross shaft are causing the noise. I had a "creaking" or "groaning" noise that happened when slowly pushing the clutch pedal down. I was able to sneak some lube in to those bushings from the outside and in through the bolt hole where bolt threads in to secure those bushings in place. Doing so didn't cure the issue but it seemed to quell the noise temporarily which in turn seemed to rule out master or slave as cause.
