I'm going back to the beginning here hoping I can offer some help. It seems my reply was blocked again.

For the drums rubbing on the backing plates you possibly have a number of concerns here. From a parts perspective both the HD drums and the re-pop backing plates can create some grief.

Let's start with the plates. The dimensions are slightly off and the stamping is so poor they bend and flex as the brake shoes are applied. It is extremely important that the face of the bearing housing was cleaned of any corrosion and paint. For the drums they sometimes are not completely round and the rubbing is often inside the grove where the backing plate lip fits to help seal out water-dirt. It is inside this groove that needs to be clearance to stop the rub. Yes steering changes can effect the rub. There is some paly in the center bearing. There is the option to just leave it and let it wear. It usually will. That plate does not put up much of a fight.

For anyone that needs a full rear brake job with drums and backing plates, if you have larger wheels, just go for the rear disc kit.

Dennis
