I'm trying to recall the exact details but if I'm not mistaken, in various model years there are subtle differences in the stock bracket and bushing sizes. Diameter of the sway bar may be a factor in that. i.e. the bracket can bolt up to frame, the bushing might have the correct or correct looking ID for bar but there can be a gap between bushing and frame and or bracket. All that said, I can't see an obvious noise resulting from play at those parts unless they'd worn prematurely and excessively. Though no noises resulted, I went through this on my '81 with different model year sway bar; the bushings were undersized to the stock brackets. Neil.
