Oh, sorry Mike, I thought you were on your way BACK to California. Anyway, on summertime trips in that area, I have utilized motel accomodations in both Mesquite, NV and St. George, UT. They are not expensive, and you will have probably had a long day of hot driving and ready to take a break with some (relatively cheap) luxury at a dumpy motel. Also....consider that due to fires, many Forest Lands are being closed. You've got to be spot-on in your research. Anyway, getting from St. George to Four Corners area is a pretty crooked route but scenic. Also, if you are going through Indian Reservation country, be prepared for Covid road closures; maybe that is over now, but a friend of mine was eternally frustrated by when this happened (last year). I-40 to Flagstaff, and then north on 89 may be an alternative route you might consider. Again, I have no clue about your timing and schedule and desires. Re-group; get a nice shower and a good meal; do some Internet research. These are unusual times. Cedar City is an hour north of St. George and 2000 feet higher in elevation, but then you gotta go up into the mountains (awesome by the way) and hope you can find a place to camp. And, then backtracking the next day on your way to CA. Mequite, NV is also an option. Cheap casinos with cheap hotels there (Virgin River is one). At least that way, you are not backtracking. Should be relatively easy to get a room on a Sunday night. I don't know your timeframe and schedule.
A good night's sleep is often worth the bucks spent. On Sunday, June 27, 2021, 4:47:59 PM PDT, Tom Buese <tantonbz@gmail.com> wrote: St George is down low & could be very warm. I might suggest you go a little farther & get up into the mountains where it will be much cooler.
