The 7" with 38mm offset will probably work on a Syncro. You need to find the depth of hub that the wheel can handle, you may not be able to fit the cap on the rear. The wheels need to be able to work lug centric as the rear won't support a centering hub. The 2WD vans up front don't really support any hub centric fit due to the bearing cap.

So - I have my eyes set on these wheels in a black but would love a second opinion to see whether they would fit the big brakes and if the offset is a little too much for a Syncro. I believe the Syncro has a little more flexibility with the front wheels compared to a 2WD. Wondering whether they would stick out too much (38+ET) and affect the sliding door if I had 215s?

According to what I have read these should be in range with a 7" wheel. These are from Vision and called 469 Boost and come in a variety of sizes and different finishes To me they look to fit the Vanagon other than having to get wheel hub rings to fill the 2mm gap between the Vision wheel and the existing hub diameter.
They are rated for 1800 lbs. I reached out to the company and they sent me a design drawing for the 16" so I could check whether they would fit the big brakes. Using the GW big brake cut out template as a guide - it looks to me like these should clear the front brakes pretty well with about 10mm of clearance between the inner wheel and the caliper. A slightly more affordable option if they are deemed worthy at about $145 Cdn per wheel.
I can pmail the spec to anyone interested - I would love a second opinion to see if technically these will work.

If going to invest in wheels go for 16 or 17 inch. Don't bother with 15 inch. Still restrictive in choices unless you really want larger diameters or off road.
Over the years I have experimented with and test fitted sizes up to 20 inch. In my opinion the sweet spot for tire choices, reasonable diameters and adequate load capacities and ride compromise-handling benefits is 17 inch.

Reasonable price, direct fit, 1,850 pound load rating. 235/55-17XL tire a great choice. Falken Wildpeak or Toyo Celsius CUV. The Rotiiva is also available in 215/60-17LT. With the Van Café tire spare tire carrier you can probably get the 215 up there.
To use this wheel on 2WD you will need 3 to 5 mm spacers up front due to the 8 inch width.
