Funny that you say the Bay has less wind resistance - which is true however when I switched from driving my 1979 Bay (panel) to the Syncro - I felt way more stable in the Vanagon as the wind did not push the van all over the road. Weight and improved stabilizers in the front end likely made the difference. I can remember being a bit tired after driving that transporter on a longer trip with any headwind.
