I've seen that failed alternator power wire problem a bunch of times over the years. That is one reason why I built the "wiring bypass tool" years ago. People can spend a lot of time fruitlessly swapping parts and chasing wild geese. There are various failure prone wiring spots that can prevent the engine from running. Often the problem comes and goes and defies simple voltage checks. The tool bypasses a lot of potential problem areas all in one go. If installing it solves the problem then you still need to pin down which wiring fault your van has and fix it but you won't spend time and money replacing parts that won't help. Details with photos of my "wiring bypass tool" can be found on TheSamba. https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=349429&highlight=wiring+bypass+tool Almost every waterboxer van is ready for a new alternator harness. They are not expensive and they can prevent a lot of surprises on the road.
