FedEx just delivered axle assembly to my front porch, right on time.  Yes....this axle is packed full of grease....and has that distinctive "one of a kind" smell; if you've dealt with CV Joints, you know what I'm talking about.  Now, time for some heavy duty plastic bags and heavy duty Zip-ties to secure under Vanagon chassis where hopefully it will sit for decades.  Might save me, or another Vanagon brother, I am happy I bought it.

This type of axle ships dry? i.e. can grease be effectively packed into every "nook and cranny" using just a putty knife or similar?

Neil.
