Just for clarification, the axle assembly I bought was the one OlRiverRat (Dean in New Mexico) suggested: https://www.autohausaz.com/pn/GK-251501203GX
NOT the Chinese version from GoWesty.
Yes, with tax and shipping it was $150 US. Sucks that you Canada guys have to go through all that stuff with customs and whatnot.
Yes, package says GKN; built in Spain; I think that is OK. Time will tell. But like I said, I hope to never have to use it. But in a pinch, I think it will get me back home to San Diego. Or some other Vanagon guy on the side of the road. (So long as he has a 4 speed tranny.)

Richard,
It’s a great deal on the axle. I’m really tempted but with shipping, exchange, and customs … it’s more money here. I do have a used axle made up . Used to carry it , now I don’t, I should again…

Yes....this axle is packed full of grease....and has that distinctive "one of a kind" smell; if you've dealt with CV Joints, you know what I'm talking about. Now, time for some heavy duty plastic bags and heavy duty Zip-ties to secure under Vanagon chassis where hopefully it will sit for decades. Might save me, or another Vanagon brother, I am happy I bought it.
