I agree with you Dennis.

But I’ll say no sign of failure except loose fit on reinstall. No bulging on test running. (week)

I have to get going tomorrow so I did what I did .

New engine I hope this winter so new hoses all round.

My comment about the stainless pipe being undersized was just a throwaway. Showing my neglect of the obvious.

I’ll say I do like spring clamps, when tight and hard to install , over gear clamp , in this application

If this hose was disconnected wit the engine out, the disconnect is likely when the hose was damaged. Under pressure there was likely a bulge indicating the likely problem. As for re-designing that pipe to take a larger diameter hose there is not clearance from that tin and you need to consider the heat from the exhaust heating that tin. As another option if using the Van-Café expansion tank the lower fitting could be changed to use a smaller hose. You do need a loop for engine movement. Note this hose is different for 2WD and Syncro. > > The after market hoses do fit poorly. The Van-Café silicone version of this hose is a great upgrade. I find the Van-Café silicone hoses work really well wit the constance tension band clamp hoses and now use them instead for stainless worm gear clamps Van-Café supplies. You have to match them carefully. > > Dennis > > > -----Original Message----- > From: Vanagon Mailing List <vanagon@gerry.vanagon.com> On Behalf Of Alistair Bell > Sent: Thursday, August 26, 2021 10:50 PM > To: vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM > Subject: Re: We try to go on trip and got hosed > > Right Neil, > > If I listened to “the little man on my shoulder” I’d have been much more critical of the hose. > > Lesson learned….yet another one :-) > > Ab > >> On Aug 26, 2021, at 7:46 PM, Neil <musomuso@gmail.com> wrote: >> >> >>> >>> .....
