thank you all ... Mark and Olrivrrat point me in the right direction...

I took the white plastic connector out and used 2 wires with alligator clips and connected them to the 2 spades on the coil... and... hurah.. the tachometer works again !!! It turns out that one one the female spades in the white connector doesn't stay in place when I put it on the coil... it moves back inside the white connector.... so now I have to figure out how to block it...

you guys are wonderful and made my day... :-)
