Interesting report, Alistair. Too bad about the logging, especially at places you seem to wish it hadn't been. Really neat that you found sundews. Not surprising that they weren't there prior to logging, or at least were less common/evident. They like a combination of open, wet, and acidic, conditions that are common to recently logged wet conifer forest. I really like sundews. Do pitcher plants occur that far north? Sometimes the two are both in the same places, but pitchers seem to like it a bit wetter, don't tolerate periodic drying as well.
