If you placed a ball on a flat surface, you will find that a very small area comes in contact with the shelf. That’s very similar to installing a ballshaped lugnut or bolt in a conical seat. They will make minimal contact with the hole. Whilst it might appear to hold the wheel in place, they will likely get lose as even simple bumps beat that ball into the essential flat area of the cone shaped hole.

Not only that, VW used the conical seat hardware in order for the lugnuts/bolts to reach in the requisite 7.5 turns for adequate engagement. Your ballseat hardware may only seat part of the way because it doesn’t have the additional threads which conical seat lugnuts/bolts have on their extended tips.

In other words, NO.
