Bruce,

I’m not surprised you show higher pressures even with hotter oil. There is no doubt your engine less worn out than mine :-)

Couple additional points. My temp sensor is at the pulley end of engine, where one of the stock pressure sender/switches used to go. I haven’t studied the oil galley system to know if this on the higher or lower end of the oil circ system .

My stock pressure Senders plus the vdo sender are on a manifold on top of the engine. Fed by pipe from sender hole between cylinders left side.

I didn’t make it clear, but on the steep slow climbs in first or g gear the oil temp did rise above 100C , to probably 105 or slightly more. But not as high as I’ve seen at other times, similar climbs, but warmer weather.

Can’t really compare coolant gauge readings, you know how they differ. But I’m happy with what I see with mine. It sits “normally” just on or to the upper edge of led. Low speed fan comes on when it’s one needle width from led. Needle will drop below led on long downhill.

Whistler trip sounds like fun.

Alistair

Like you - I have a VDO temp gauge and digital pressure gauge from Intellitronix. The temp sender is ported on the oil pressure relief plug. > > Nice that your motor seems to be running cooler. I plan to drive to Whistler in a couple of weeks and take the van off road up there - I am hoping to see some lower oil temps compared to the summer as well. > > Bruce > >> On Tue, Aug 31, 2021 at 6:16 PM Alistair Bell <albell@shaw.ca> wrote: >> >> VDO gauges >> >> Now remember my engine is quite old. Had a bit of a ditch across it too, so slow ease in and out. Normally, when I do that kind of climb, oil temps really go up. And pressure down. But this time it was fine. I’m going to attribute this to cooler ambient. 20C instead of 30C temps. But , again a but, I have the gut feeling the engine was running cooler. The only thing I really did to engine this summer when engine out, that could possibly be a reason, was getting all of my chronic exhaust leaks fixed. >> >> Ok, back to the Hwy. Bruce, I can’t recall the temps and pressures you recorded on road from cowichan village to Duncan. I was flat out, 100-110 kph. At that sustained speed the oil temp just nudged over 100. Maybe 105. Oil pressure at that speed was 30 psi. As expected oil temps dropped to under 100C when I was forced to slow down to 80kph . >> >> Alistair >> >>>> On Aug 31, 2021, at 1:17 PM, Bruce Todd <beeceetee@gmail.com> wrote: >>>> >>> >>> Cool - what make are the gauges and what readings were you getting? >>> >>> BT >>> >>>> On Tue, Aug 31, 2021 at 1:08 PM Alistair Bell <albell@shaw.ca> wrote: >>>> I do have oil temp and pressure… >>>> >>>> And was noting both during trip, especially on way out along cow lake Hwy towards Duncan… >>>> >>>> Like you did :-) >>>> >>>> Ab >>>> >>>>>> On Aug 31, 2021, at 12:04 PM, Bruce Todd <beeceetee@gmail.com> wrote:

I’ll say more later, but I don’t think van has ran this well for quite a while. Ambient temps were cool, but still, I think my oil temps were lower by 5-10C and coolant temps were good…. Low speed fan came on when needed, temp dropped on long declines… etc etc. All good. >>>>>> >>>>>> Alistair
