Don't knock "piped" water... There's a state campsite on the McCloud River in California that is on the grounds of a former Hearst hunting lodge that somehow(?) became abandoned and eventually burned. You can still see the stones from the old fireplace, the fruit orchard has gone "feral" and now apparently attracts bears. AND, the state tapped the well and installed mens and womens' bathrooms with flush toilets, and sinks and faucets with potable water. It's a car camping site about 5 miles off logging roads, but still dirt. Each spot has a fire ring and picnic bench and a spot for your Westy.

Granted, the McCloud river is one of the most famous fly fishing rivers in North America and it's damn difficult, so it tends to draw a more genteel crowd than other spots. That said, after freezing in the morning in 48 degree water and roasting all afternoon in 98+ degree heat, it sure is nice to be able to take a crap and flush at the end of the day.
