As an info, I'm using an electric power steering unit from a Tahoe on a Ford tractor. There wasn't a kit, so I pulled part of the column and lower connecting shaft and had to weld it in. This has been several years ago. I didn't even think about our vans, since mine has a power rack already.

Wow!

Can’t believe this never came up before. My system is re done now so hopefully all good. But, with this info I’m certainly going to keep my ear out for the needed parts in case of a future need. I like to keep my van reasonably stock but some upgrades seem to make sense. This one would even support a future move to all electric say in 15 to 20 years or so!

Never hurts to plan ahead while enjoying the present!

But it’s was not incorporated into van speedo or a separate speed pick up. Instead it was to a user adjustable knob on lower dash. The owner just set the amount of steering assist to his liking and left it at that setting. > > I’ve often thought that if my ps system goes south it would be a viable alternative. > > Alistair > >> On Sep 27, 2021, at 9:11 AM, Eric Caron <ericcaron96@comcast.net> wrote: >> >> Hi folks, >> >> At a recent gathering, camp out with several VW friends one Vanagon caretaker showed us his power steering. In the future maybe more of us might go that route. It frees up horse power, removes some weight, takes away several likely failure points.
