I have used Flickr for many years. They have a strong emphasis on paid plans but you CAN use the site for free (for the first 1000 photos).

I think if you are a serious photographer a site like this is a good way to go. On an annual plan it is not too expensive and it provides a lot of features.
For those of you with a google account (if you have an android phone you have one), Google Photos is free and also provide sharing options.

Those of us in the Apple ecosystem can share directly from the iCloud system. Select a photo (by default your iPhone photos are uploaded there) using the web interface at iCloud.com and then choose share (box with an arrow going up). You can choose the “Copy URL” option. Like this:

That’s a photo of my dogs. :-)
None of these “Free” services are totally free, of course. You either end up looking at ads (Google) or paying a bundled price for things like extra storage (iCloud).
