I bought my first '59 (a tintop) in 1972, picked up a copy of John
Muir's "How to keep your volkswagen alive and running for the complete
idiot" at the same time. That was the start... I learned to turn
wrenches with that book and my bus ... had some type of VW (usually a
bus) from then on.
I didn't find the list until 94 or 95...

I do remember being Wallaced that first time!

I didn't get my first westy (an 84) until 2007 or so. Sold it in 2013
(it was Subie powered by then). Didn't have a bus again until last
year (a maroon '90 tintop with a subaru 2.2), bought it off a small
used car dealers lot in Olympia where it had been sitting for awhile.
I hadn't bought a VW bus off a lot since 1990 when I bought the 86
Syncro from the dealer at Ala Moana Volkswagen in Honolulu (we were
moving to Chicago and the '79 I had was missing it's heater boxes).

This morning I woke up to 2" of snow and it's still falling here
(Tahuya) at almost sea level on Hood Canal in Washington state.
