A few months ago after my diesel westy alternator bracket broke I had to
find a replacement. I needed look no further than my own parts stash to
find the short adjustment arm used on the diesel Vanagon setup. The
difficulty of getting such a part if one was stuck out on the road is
something you don't want to go through. Pretty easy job, hard to find part.


I found a spare on eBay, VW Audio stamped part number A 068 908 253 AA. It
was cheap enough, and of better quality than the original in my opinion.
Thicker, stouter, and with extra features like that geared rack that you
may have seen on 1991 gas Vanagons to allow you to tension the alternator
with a gear that fit in the rack so the the belt could be properly
tightened with one wrench and locked down with another. Very slick, I had
one for a 2.1 and sold it years ago. So I have this spiffy bracket but need
the star gear to fit the rack (looks the same to me) and the lock bolt, in
other words everything but the bracket to make this work. So does anyone
have these parts for the part number mentioned above they would be willing
to sell, or for the 2.1 bracket (but I don't need the bracket, just the
gear and lock nut and anything that goes with that).

I would appreciate hearing from anyone who knows. I cross posted because
the 2.1 gas vanagon are more likely to have this part lying around that
diesel owners.
