After nearly four years, I FINALLY have a Vanaru. It's been a long haul with several stops along the way. Had to change vans in midstream. Started out with a manual shift '88 GL and wound up with a '91 Carat with auto tranny coupled to the Subie engine. Used a 2005 Outback engine and a computer from A Precis of the same year. Engine had 150,000 on it so I basically gave it an overhaul., All new bearings throughout, new rings, reworked the heads and valves, all new seals. Fired it up and it runs so sweet. Ran it a bit, then took it out on the road. Gad what power. The thing would accelerate even going up a very steep incline. Now I can pass cars and trucks going uphill. Still some work to do. Hook up the A/C,v install belts for the A/C and PS pump, then put in new PS rack, Rework front suspension - bushings, shocks, new rotors, wheel bearings, brake pucks. I am so wanting to get on the road with this! |
