The Rockford boots are thick and stout.  But they only have 4 convolusions.  Once a tear initiates, of course there is no turning back.  I have seen Tiguan boots advised on The Samba.  I also saw on Facebook where a guy bought some boots with 6 convolusions and made of ThermoPlastic Elastomer, not rubber, but took some modifications to allow it to fit.  Anyway, I bought one of those half-axles that Dean (OlRivrRat) sent a link to.  Has the good Loebro joints.  I built a plywood box; mounted it under Vanagon; all bag sealed and greased and ready to go.  Just hanging there.  Reason:  I do long distance roadtrips, like across the country; I have had previous situations where the clicking started; now, I can pretty much pull into any auto mechanic anywhere, I even have the 12 Point driver for the screws; just peace of mind.  Cheap.
