First the group wisdom challenge 

If you need to replace a CV boot and you have in your collection three different boots, which one would you use?
1. New Rockford 
2 New Rain, Not sure if spelled right.
3. Used VW boot intact little bit of wear marks on outside.

 still want to know if anyone has found a really good replacement CV boot.

I was under my van Friday inspecting things and noticed grease had been thrown from a boot unto some hoses.  I felt the boot and found a slit. 

This boot was a Rain and had few miles on it as it replaced a Rockford that was not that old when it died. Maybe 4,000 miles maybe much less.

Saturday with the help of a friend we changed out the boot.

I’ve now done this three times just for the boots.  And for transmission work I’ve done an additional 4 Axles.

At this point I can do the job blind.  Literally.

So any new boots out there that actually hold up?

What boot did we choose to install?  

The used VW boot.
  

Now off to order replacement CV bolts, washers, clips and snaps.
Why don’t replacement boots last on my van!
And why don’t complete kits come complete?
