I have thought about this, having my home address on my Registration paper in glovebox, and also my garage door-opener clicky in map pocket. (My Vanagon is always garaged.) So instant presto, they would have access to my garage and all it's contents. (Garage is separate from house.) For security and convenience, I rigged up a tiny momentary switch on steering column underside plastic piece, the clicky garage door opener resides inside there too wired into the momentary switch. Now when approaching garage, I touch the nearly invisible momentary switch (adjacent to ignition switch); slight inconvenience in that to replace clicky battery every 8 years or so, I need to remove the plastic trim piece. But yeah...I should also make the Registration paper a little harder for the "pressed for time" thief to find.

Back in the 1970s I lived in Tulsa, where I taught at the local jr college,

there was an incident a 100 miles or so east in Missouri where a highway
policeman made a traffic stop and a hitchhiker raised up from the back seat
and shot the officer dead.
I got stopped late one evening for speeding on the way home from
Stillwater. I usually drive with my wallet in the storage locker between
the front passenger seats. When the policeman asked me for my DL, I had
already thought about this. I told him where my wallet was and he
immediately shined a flashlight into my face and the space inside the car.
He told me to open that compartment very slowly, which I did. He was
almost shaking when he appeared at the window, and I really was fearful of
what might happen.
