Fill Plug Location > Locate the Horizontal Shift Rod Support that is attached to the Tranny,
Feel above that Shift Rod & Ahead of that Support Mount Point 1-2 Inches Up & Forward.
Both Fill & Drain need a 17mm Allen. Years ago I acquired a Set of 3 Large Allen Sockets
for 1/2In drive @ HarborFreight & cut the 17mm so that it was just long enough to fit the Depth
of those Plugs,, That also left Me with a piece of 17mm Allen that is just long enough to also fit
the Depth of the Plugs with enough protruding to get a 17mm BoxEnd Wrench on it while being
Short Enough to fit into the space between Drain Plug & Exhaust Pipe.
Also for proper filling,, the Vanagon Should be Level so if You need to lift it to make room
under for more comfortable work environment, Lift All 4 Wheels or Both Ends Equally.
My personal favorite Gear Oil is Valvoline SynPower 75w90. A year or 2 back after reading
someones idea that since We are almost always asking Our Trannys to do a lot of work it might
be wise to use a 75w140 so I decided to give that a try but switched back to 75w90 after having
symptoms that made Me feel as if My Peloquin LSD was not happy with the 75w140.
