I have tried to follow the oil recommendations listed in my owner's manual. For a while, when I first got the van and was learning, and there were oil sender and contact point problems in the electrical components, so I thought there was low oil pressure, someone told me to use a heavier weight oil, so I did. But I got things figured out with help from folks on this list and an excellent mechanic, and have stuck with the recommendations in the book since. That means 20W50 for the places I've run most of the time, but 10W40 here in the Inland NW in winter.
