So, in the attempt to keep up with maintenance on my vans I changed the 84 fuel filter and the fuel lines on both sides.  Line from tank to pump is changed.

The old filter seemed to be letting fuel flow through but when empty it did take a bit of effort for me to blow through it.  Not sure if that is normal.  New filter much easier to blow through before I installed it.

How often to change this filter?

I partly changed it as I’m working through all possible reasons for engine stumble and this was on a list.  Plus, hoses were looking pretty old.  So now changed and no change on stumble.

I’m doing what I can while waiting for a chance to proceed with friends help.

One thing I also noticed, I think this is the original fuel pump.  Still has the spade connectors and is Bosch.  Still quiet and working fine after 245 K miles.

I wish I still had my original on my other van but changed it out during another problem solving issue.

That pump is now gone and serving on a 78 with my old 1.9 engine.

Because the 84 van came with a new Bosh fuel pump in a box, I’m tempted to put it on my 85 as the new pump on there seems noisy.

Any  thoughts on life of the fuel filter and also on the original fuel pump?

Eric Caron
