Remember how Dennis would state: "The purchase price is only the down payment".
This is incredibly true advice. Even more nowadays. Parts are unavailable. Vanagon mechanics have closed shop. And things will not suddenly reverse. Just the way it goes. I am one of those guys, struggling to keep Vanagon in good shape; I buy parts whenever I can. Goal is to make it last for the next 15 years. I am 68....so that will take me to nearly 85. I think at that point my endless roadtrips will silently end in happy conclusion. Again...just the way it goes. It is this thing called "life".

Dennis has walked me through wheel and tire choices, thinking about upgrades to brakes, lighting, etc. figuring out towing capabilities and producing products that just work.
He’s generous with his time, and is always willing to help. It’s people like Dennis who bind communities together. I sold my vanagon some time ago and I’m still on here learning so much!

1. Once I was broken down in my '85 Vanagon; Corpus Christi Texas. All red lights on, major coolant overflow too. Dennis walked me through it, calmed me down, and successful return trip home to San Diego.
2. Another time, I couldn't figure out why radio fuses kept busting. Dennis patiently explained that yellow wire was for power to radio, and red wire was only a trigger. Has worked perfectly since.
3. Another time, I was in Grand Junction, CO. Summer. High elevations, high temperatures too. Dennis again explained about the shift in gasoline vapor pressures; how that makes fuel in a clogged fuel tank difficult to extract without inducing vacuum bubbles in line. Somehow I made it home; replaced fuel tank; and all perfect since....like 5 years ago.
4. Another time, I was in Monterey, CA. Red light on panel for coolant on cold morning startup; Dennis explained low coolant in pressure expansion tank. He was right on. Temporary fix was to add distilled water; permanent fix was to replace janky plastic tank and unreliable blue cap with the aluminum VanCafe device.
So Dennis Haynes supplied all these suggestions, free of charge. And he as offered many more suggestions for a host of issues on our Vanagons. Always freely....willingly....for benefit of us all. Again, no charge.
How can you even describe such service? I can't. But it is real. And there are other guys too like Mark D. Incredible. These guy go out of their way to help us....at no charge.
