Hi folks,

So, on another topic. I’m still trying to solve a persistent running issue with my 84.

A fairly new friend with a lot of vW bus experience took my 84 van to evaluate.

He has only had it a short time but called me with his initial observations.

I look forward to the list thoughts.

He checked fuel pressure and found it good until the van was turned off. Then it should have held pressure but did not.

After 10 minutes it was at zero.

He is guessing either leaking injectors, or bad check valve in the fuel pump. He is testing further to see if injectors.

He also says he is pretty sure he can hear a vacuum leak. I was surprised with the vacuum leak as we had sprayed carb cleaner to try to find any leaks.

He said sometimes when the van is running rich the spray doesn’t change the motor sounds even if there is a vacuum leak.

Fingers crossed the 84 is running normally again soon.

Then, I can be a bit less stressed about getting my 85 healthy.

Thoughts on the current trail of investigation?

Issue is van running rich with or without O2 connected.

Poor gas mileage. With O2 on hesitation and almost back fire at acceleration. And occasional loss of power at speed.

With O2 off same behavior but milder almost feels like van is running correctly for a gentle driver not pressing hard on accelerator.
