Thanks Alistair. I just found your Shufti post on the coolant tower. The aluminum one looks to be quite robust.

The plastic replacement part that I've carried around for 20 years consists of 4 parts: the coolant distribution part, a plug and an o-ring for the temp sender location, and a retaining clip to hold the plug in place (all for when no temp sender is used).

I cannot figure out how to install the retaining clip for the plug, it seems to me that it doesn't fit. Maybe it's the wrong clip, the one to be used when using a temp sender. It's a good thing that I didn't need this part in an emergency repair out on the road. Whatever...I'm going to get the aluminum one, I sure hope this is the last part I have to order for this job. Van Cafe has been getting parts to me in 2-3 days, I really appreciate that.
