Hello John, After seeing your post yesterday afternoon, I took my '91 Subie Vanagon on a trip to see a friend. My Vanagon has 4-speed manual transmission and reportedly a 1995 Subie engine. Van has never had a problem going much faster than most would consider proper. Only problem I noted last was on accelerating from a stop on a 60 mph road. I kept it in third until I was over 65 mph at full throttle. Engine became less than smooth, but was fine after I shifted in to 4th. Mine shows 4000. But, beginning at 65 mph the engine begins to buck as if doing a high speed on and off. Can't go faster. Is there some kind of engine governor that needs to be reset? I have been told I should be able to get 6500 rpm and above out of this engine. This has me mystified. |
