Hi Dennis,

Friend Art cleaned things up then went for a 16 minute drive. At home he described seeing a very small amount of oil and tiny drip. We need more testing to find source but his best guess is the oil dip stick tube. It seems like the right location.

More evaluation is needed.

As for EFI leaks, I’m completely baffled by that. I remember you found a leak on the other engine after a few thousand miles and GW sent a new seal. But, I’m not sure where to look.

Fingers crossed it is something relatively simple.

Eric

There in an o-ring, in which the dimensions and material are critical. There is small step the on the tube under that stop flange which works with the bore to create the seal. Then there is reliance on the shape of the tube and the alternator cross bracket to hold that tube firmly in place. A sealant such as the right stuff or that magic black stuff that comes in the head gasket kit is a friend with this. > > For the oil breather tower, you have an added challenge here as you also have the plate for the crank position sensor for the GW EFI. That plate can also slide to adjust position of the sensor to the tone wheel added to the crank pulley. I usually use a gasket for the Beetle engine oil tower between this bracket and the case. > > Dennis > > > > -----Original Message----- > From: Vanagon Mailing List <vanagon@gerry.vanagon.com> On Behalf Of Dan N > Sent: Monday, April 3, 2023 3:41 PM > To: vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM > Subject: Re: Oil leak, dip stick seal? > > Could it be from the breather tower?
