Well, mine is a Subie EJ22 motor; I got "clever" and decided to use a device from SmallCar...a flexible dipstick so I could determine oil level through license plate.  Unfortunately, I goofed up....and that thing leaks at installation point into oil pan.  Same thing as you....upper part of engine clean...but an annoying "mist" forms and blown around by wind and collects on rear hatch area.  Ugh.  Nothing to worry about, just messy.

This is a very tiny amount of oil that is dripping from somewhere.

Of course source could be different from where it drips down.

And interesting how it is a sort of film over things in the very rear of the van. Unfortunately skilled eyes and drivers are not hear often.
