I am certainly not an insurance expert, but I keep reading on here about
"stated value" insurance policies with regard to accident damage. My
understanding from reading and speaking to insurance company personnel is
that stated policy does not mean the company will agree with that value
when push comes to shove. It is just stated by the owner that the vehicle
was worth that when the policy was issued, and the company may well dispute
that and refuse to pay that amount. The better alternative, if one wants
to be sure of getting a settlement for the actual value of a high dollar
vehicle, is an "agreed value" policy, where the insurance company agrees,
in the policy when issued, to the value based on appraisal by a third
party. Even then, the policy will almost always state that the value may
change based on the market, and that payment for a damaged vehicle will
depend on market at the time of settlement.
Never trust an insurance company to act to the policy holder or damaged
owner's benefit, as someone else with inside experience earlier stated.
