OK,
So, not sure, but I think you do have something going on with the ignition switch. But help me out here folks. When my key was sort of not fully disengaging when pulled out a friend help me get into the steering column. We replaced something but I don’t remember exactly what it was. It had to do with the spring action that happens when you push in the key. Once that part was replaced all worked well again. It did not affect my key or he changed the cylinder. I’m not sure as he has a lock smith background. I think just a plastic part of the ignition switch but maybe not the part that the connectors go on? What part has a spring in it for the key? Is my brain scrambling this?
We had to get some difficult break off bolts out to access the ignition.
This is my guess as to what is happening. The key is out but not fully disengaged. The door opening is incidental or helps with the full disengagement.
