Hi Dan and others,

Being blind I had to grab my wife for the pictures but she agrees they show the marking toward the outside.

Now I have to glove up and go see if I can feel the bevel Chris described.

Once I finish the spare axles for my 84 I’ll get the axle off the 85 and replace the boots with the high Angle ones I’m getting from Chris at T3. I’m optimistic these will hold up.

If so, every failed boot going forward means a set of these on the axle. By the time the boots arrive, I’ll be well practiced in the art of boot and CV exchanges.

I ask because on the axles I removed from my 84 and am now repairing three CV joints have the groove facing in and one has it facing out. I’m wondering if that one was put on backwards. It has a good boot so I’d rather not mess with it. But if backwards I can deal with it now that I’m in the middle of this project. >> > >> > And Success. >> > >> > Thanks to the list and some local friends on the phone I successfully changed out a ripped boot and have an axle ready to go for my 84 if needed in the future. >> > >> > I’ll rehab the other axle now and then do the 85. >> > >> > Nice to have accomplished this task. Likely easy for you folks but I was feeling pretty uncertain taking it on alone. >> > >> > So, what direction for that CV joint groove? >> > >> > Eric Caron >> > 85 auto 84 standard.
