It's interesting to see "amazing" prices on CV Joints. I started thinking....how can these guys make a CV Joint and axle and boot for 1/2 the price? I mean, they look identical and function the same as the expensive ones, and of course it takes exactly the same amount of time and labor to install. Of course the difference must be this: materials and tolerances.
Metallurgy--it surely must take much less time to grind and machine CV Joint components using a softer less durable alloy. Things just go faster. Also, if the surface is smooth but the tolerances are loose....hey, that's easier too. I mean, if they rattle around a bit due to large tolerances....well, they work don't they?
There is a good reason, beyond the sales & marketing, why good long-lasting stuff is expensive. And I believe that reason is because of pain-staking engineering and diligence, which includes metallurgy and tolerances. Unfortunately the only way to discover this for sure is by field testing...and eventually the word gets around. What's that saying?: Let the buyer beware. You get what you pay for. Sayings like these.

Hey,
Am I reading the eBay add correctly? $110 for set of complete axles with boots and CV? Or is it just a set of axles that I build from?
I’m not a good web shopper so appreciate the info and links and recommendations.
