Hi Richard,
I am glad no offense was taken and you enjoyed the reference.
I have been camping without an awning or solar panels and like yourself,
it has never been part of my set up and is something I found unnecessary
and frivolous. But as I refurbish my Westy, (currently in a very long
restoration), I am planning to add these components. Partly due to where I
live (like Alistair) living in the Pacific Northwest with an abundance of
moisture - which when it is not raining, seemingly is on fire during the
summer months! And also because I want to recharge my aux battery during
longer stays or have it in a positive state voltage wise. As well, I have
been around other Vanagon owners with awnings and solar panels and
definately see the upside - can make things just a little easier and more
manageable given the environment.
I am purchasing these items very slowly off Craigslist at a discount which
suits me in both the cost factor and the reuse.
Is your van back from being repaired - or is that still on-=going?
